Ernest Thomas Arthur Mann was born in Bermondsey (St.Olaves, Bermondsey Q1-1898 1D:255), son of William and Eleanor Smith MANN (née MUNNS).
1901 census... Aged 3, he was at 53 Clements Road, Bermondsey with his father William MANN [33] miller's labourer, born Soham; his mother Eleanor Smith [30], born Peterborough; brothers William Henry [10] and Francis James [8]; sisters Eleanor Mary [6], Elsie Elizabeth [5], Minnie Hilda [4] and Dorothy Louisa [8 months] and his uncle John Barnard MANN [23] a corn labourer, born Holywell Road, Mildenhall. All the children were born in Bermondsey. . 1911 census...Aged 13, a farm labourer, he was at Decoy Farm, Hockwold Fen, Brandon with his parents (father now farm foreman); brothers Francis James (farm labourer), John Douglas [5] born Soham and George Ernest [2] born Pymore, Ely; sisters Elsie Elizabeth, Minnie Hilda Rose, Dorothy Louisa, Eva Winifred [8], Una Florence [7], Flora May [6] and Hilda Olive [4], all the new sisters were born in Soham. One of the 14 children had died. The memorial is the only place where he is T.E.A. Mann CWGC have his parents living at 13 Liston Road, Clapham, London and Ernest as a native of Soham, albeit with an incorrect age |

Enlisted in St Paul's Churchyard, London.
On the 7th June 1917 the 1st battalion were south of the river Scarpe, in the Happy Valley area near Fampoux, working parties repairing trenches. The war diary says the was slight shelling and a quiet night. There were 6 killed.
